How Peculiar
Hello and welcome. My name is Amanda...I live about 3 hours north of NYC. I challenge you to a game of ping pong.
Bizarre Food of the Day: Starting February 16, Boca Tacos y Tequila of Tucson will be adding the second most deadly game to their Wednesday night menu of exotic taco fillings: African lions.
The president of the National Wildlife Humane Society Patrick Webb has already made his distaste known to owner Bryan Mazon, but he remains unmoved, saying reservations to try the unusual fare are piling up.
As far as the FDA is concerned, lion meat is fine to sell so long as the specific subspecies isn’t endangered.

Reblogging this for future reference. Next year when Charlotte is a bit more interactive….ok, so the truth is next year when her Mum has time to buy and wrap books before Dec 1st…..we will be implementing this instead of an Advent calendar. Speaking of which, I need to source an Advent Calendar tomorrow!
Christmas Book Advent Calendar
How brilliant is this?!
Instead of using a traditional advent calendar [where hidden behind microscopic paper doors are tiny holiday themed photos or bite-sized pieces of chocolate] to count down the days until Christmas….why not make things a little more interactive with this delightful idea!
You can create your own Christmas Book Advent Calendar, by wrapping 24 Christmas Books in festive holiday paper. Label each book with the 24 days until Christmas and display them somewhere in your home [on your mantle…under the tree!]. Each night, your kids get to unwrap one book and that is their bedtime story for the evening.[I know it sounds daunting at first…but wrap in cheap paper and definitely reuse the books year after year. Just call it a tradition!]
I stumbled on this idea on one of my favorite mommy blogs, and while our little girl will be experiencing Christmas from inside my tummy this year, I DEFINITELY will be implementing this come Christmas 2011. And I plan beginning my hunt for Holiday Books now!I really can’t wait to be a Mom!

Photo of the Day: Brazilian brothers Tiago and Gabriel Primo have set up camp on the side of a 33-foot-tall building in Rio. The two move from one part of their “home” to another with mountain climbing gear.
They’ve been living vertically since May and plan to stay put until August.

Subject: Midwestern Nice
Hey Julia!
I totally agree about midwesterners being nice! I’m from Fargo, ND and people always say hi when passing you on the street or at the very least smile. When I was out in Denver visiting a cousin we had some car problems and had to pull over. It was snowing pretty hard out and it was obvious that I was having issues trying to get this car to work again. Not one person pulled over or even asked if we needed any help. If something like that happens in Fargo, I can guarantee that a few people would stop and try to help out. I don’t know why we are like this. I just think, at least up here, that you are taught to help your neighbors and if someone needs help and you have the ability to give that help, you should. I really love that about the midwest! All this friendliness is making me nervous! ;) What’ll happen when I get back to New York? I’ll reflexively smile at people and they’ll reflexively punch me in the neck.
I was walking around my neigborhood this weekend and every single person waved high or stopped to chat and say hello. I love Saratoga Springs…..it is like a happiness bubble in New York State.

Wedding inspiration…in shoes?
SO the wedding is now in less that 3 short months and I thought I would start sharing some of the details…..
When you read blogs all the time and have a zillion ideas running in your head as to what your vision will be for THE biggest party of your life…it can be a little daunting.
Somehow, I have breezed thru it by never second-guessing myself and going with my gut. I know it is very uncommon, but I am not a shoe girl. I never go shoe shopping and I rarely think about them.
That is why it is so funny that our whole wedding theme and color scheme was created around a pair of shoes that I fell in love with for my girls. They were the first decision and we took it from there….
Paired with knee length clover green bubble hem dresses they are just darling….My girls think so too…except for my MOH who when barefoot is 6 foot tall and my other bridesmaid who has never (NEVER!) worn heels before. But they are good friends and are rocking them out just for me

What do you think?
